The atrium (formally named The Forum) of the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is a wonderful example of brutalist architecture. The first thing you notice is that you face stairstep style amphitheater seating. Within this area there are a few seemingly random blocks of concrete without any clear function. I believe these are deliberate disruptions in the sightlines to make us pause an ponder the scene.
Looking up you see the bare concrete columns supporting the structure. Walkways and staircases criss-cross above you. It makes you wonder where it all the starts and ends. At the top is a skylight creating a wonderful mix of light and shower over the whole scene.
